Vinyasa yoga poses have taken components from ashtanga and power yoga such as sun salutations, etc. This is the reason why it is also called power yoga or even power vinyasa yoga.
In fact there is a flowing sequence in vinyasa yoga poses that connect the movement with breath. It is important to remember, vinyasa is not just a sequence of movements; it connects a meditative practice, with our movements.
As you go from one vinyasa yoga pose to the next during your exercise routine, you need to allow your breath to carry you through, realizing in this way the fluid nature of the human body. Practicing your movements the flow become more and more fluid, as well your thoughts and your flexibility.
Vinyasa yoga focuses on synchronizing your breathing with your movement. In fact this is what vinyasa means a breath-synchronized movement. It is not a single form of yoga, but rather many techniques put together. The poses flow together in this form of yoga to resemble dancing, looking more like a fluid motion. No matter how one moves, it all must be done while consistently breathing in and out.
One of the main reasons to practice this kind of yoga is the diversity you receive with the exercise. Despite the routine used, the vinyasa yoga will be a challenge at first and you will build strength and flexibility over time.
It is known that the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga has eight limbs ,that are; abstinence, observance, postures, breath control, sense withdrawal, concentration, meditation and contemplation. We saw above on this article the importance of breathing while practicing this power yoga, the technique of synchronizing the breath with the movement flow.
In vinyasa yoga, there is a specific series of movements, which are followed between each pose in a series. Normally sun salutation series is executed. As we previously said sun salutations are also a part of other forms of yoga also. The sun salutation flow followed in vinyasa is different than the traditional sun salutations. Each teacher training the vinyasa yoga poses may make some changes to the sun salutation. The basic yoga poses, which are a part of the series include plank pose, low plank pose, upward facing dog and downward facing dog.
The sun salutation starts with hands to the chest, followed by the tree pose. Then the person bends down and tries to reach the hands to the floor. This is followed by a deep lunge with the right leg in front and then by a downward facing dog and plank pose. The low plank pose comes after the plank pose and then the upward facing dog. The last poses of the salutation are downward facing dog, deep lunge with left leg in front, hands to the floor, tree pose and hands to the chest. Normally many different yoga poses are included in the sun salutation series. Lots of standing postures, twists, inversions, backbends, forward bends, etc. This also helps in making this form of yoga more dynamic.
Following vinyasa yoga poses help to burn out more calories than the other forms of yoga, due to its dynamic nature, this is powered not only by different poses, but also with the special breathing technique. Everyone can practice vinyasa flow yoga, but it is always highly recommended to start it with a trained yoga teacher. After you can use a dvd with vinyasa poses at your own place.
